Hi, I’m Liz.
I am thrilled you are considering counselling. How brave. I know what it is like to reach out for help, and it is hard.
Potential clients wonder: “What is counselling with you really like?”
First, I promise to build a relationship with you that is based on trust and deep respect so you can bring 100% of yourself to our space. Just as you are.
Second, I will be your cheerleader and coach. I am going to encourage you to the hilt, but I am also going to challenge you.
Third, you are in charge! If something is not right or if you are not happy with what is happening in counselling we can switch it up. I am committed to “getting it right” for you.
Fourth, I use tried and true counselling approaches that have a lot of valid research to back them up. I do my homework to make sure I am offering the best counselling I can.
In counselling, we are going to take a close look at how you act, what you think and feel, what you sense in your body and how these different parts of yourself are affecting you and your relationships. We will also consider the influences of your family, upbringing, your intimate relationships and surrounding societal and cultural factors.
In couples counselling (which I love doing!) we will look at what patterns keep popping up in the relationship, how to build a deeper connection with each other, and how to work toward an intimate partnership that is based on friendship, trust, care, and love.
Together we will come up with solutions that you think will work for you (remember, you are the boss!)
I have a Master of Counselling through the University of Lethbridge, a Master of Theological Studies from McMaster University, an undergraduate arts degree and a teaching degree from the University of Victoria. I am a member of the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors.
I am experienced in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and Gottman method for couples. I work with body based methods and utilize somatic experiencing. I work from a trauma informed perspective, and take a special interest in maternal mental health, postpartum depression and anxiety, spirituality and spiritual trauma, parenting, marriage, and relationships issues. I am a facilitator of “Prepare/Enrich”; a premarital counselling and marriage assessment tool.
Thank you for reading this far. I am honoured that you are considering counselling with me. I promise I will walk beside you through whatever challenge you are facing to discover hope, healing and wholehearted living.
